The primary role of the school counselor is to advance student academic, social/emotional, and career competence. The role of a School Counselor may look different, depending on the school, but most counselors wear several hats.

Testing Coordination (Building Assessment Coordinator)

Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution
Collaboration with local mental health providers
Therapy Dog Program

Teacher Support and Professional Development
Section 504 Eligibility and Planning/Case Management for 504 Plans
Coordination of Awards Programs and Attendance Incentives
Other Administrative Duties

That's a lot of hats to wear, right? But, my most important job at our school is to advocate for our students. That means I am always looking for ways to help them gain access to what they need to be healthy, happy kids! I may be busy, but when there's a student in crisis, I'll be there to help them through it and that is more important than any of my other "jobs" at the school.
